About Little Lambs

History

August 2003
When Little Lambs opened its doors

Little Lambs opened its doors with the shared vision of Dr. Marcee Martin, a retired kindergarten teacher and Superintendent from Ferndale Schools, and Father Ed Mullins, the Rector at the time at Christ Church Cranbrook. Their vision was to provide care for the surrounding community, as well providing an opportunity for young families to become
involved in a church community.

Little Lambs' co-founder

Little Lambs’ co-founder, Dr. Marcee Martin, retires. Her vision of a family-friendly program that provides individualized care for all children still lives on at Little Lambs. Dr Marcee Martin now resides in Evergreen, Colorado, where she and her husband, Art, are delighted to be closer to their two grown children and their respective spouses.

September 2008
Board of Directors

The Board of Directors was created with the Foster and Nugent families, who were CCC members. Both families had children enrolled at Little Lambs. It was their goal to revamp Little Lambs. With the direction of Cindy Foster, Board Chairperson from 2008 - 2016
and child clinical psychologist, Little Lambs began to flourish. Since this time, Little Lambs began to consistently have a long waitlist for our classrooms.

October 2013
Little Lambs celebrates 10 year anniversary.

Dr. Marcee Martin, along with current and alumni families, was there to participate in the big celebration. Music, a child friendly train, and food were all a part of the celebration.

July 2014
Young Infant Room opens!

Our past Infant Room cared for children between the ages of 6 weeks through 18 months. Opening the new Young Infant space allowed us to tailor our program to the youngest children at Little Lambs; having two separate infant rooms- Young Infants (ages 6 weeks through 1 year) and Older Infants (ages 1 through 2 years).

September 2016
Pre-K Room opens!

To better meet the needs in our oldest classroom, we were able to open our Pre-K Room to care for children between the ages of 4 through kindergarten-ready. Opening the new Pre-K Room allowed us to create a more academically structured environment, with many play based elements, to prepare children that will be attending kindergarten the following school year.

December 2017
NEW natural playground!

Little Lambs, along with CCC, designs and installs a NEW natural playground! We have created a new outdoor play space that focuses on natural materials and loose parts. Children can explore the outdoors in numerous ways including our loose parts building area, mud kitchen, tree trunk climbing structure, garden, sandbox, and slide built right into the hill!

Mission

We lovingly embrace your child within a safe and nurturing environment to create a Christian “away from home” family. Our caring staff responds to the unique patterns of growth and development of your child, and focuses on appropriate stimulation of each child’s physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth.

Philosophy

The first five years of childhood are the most important to set a strong foundation for learning.  Our educational curriculum, based on the nationally acclaimed, research-based High/Scope Curriculum , is designed to help each child reach their fullest potential.   Through active learning, children at Little Lambs can act on their innate desire to explore and interact with the world around them.  Our curriculum guides children’s learning from infancy through pre-school and is cognitively oriented to prepare children for future academic experiences.   In addition, we design learning activities to enable each child to progress at their own pace in the areas of social, emotional, and spiritual growth.  We go beyond academics to help children acquire self-esteem, self-reliance, problem-solving, conflict-resolution skills, and empathy for others.

Our Christian foundation, which includes introduction to prayer, Bible stories, music, and worship, is a unique aspect of the Little Lambs program.  In addition to daily meal time grace and prayer within the classroom, our Preschool and Pre-K classrooms are provided with rich Bible stories that prepare children for our intimate Godly Play curriculum for bi-weekly spiritual exploration and faithful discovery. Godly Play is taught by the Director of Children’s Ministry at Christ Church Cranbrook.

At Little Lambs, we welcome all children without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, or ancestry.  Children with special needs will be accepted on the basis of our ability to successfully meet that child’s needs.
